The culture of the islands will be coming back to Rohnert Park on Saturday, July 27 as a way to raise money for the Rohnert Park Warriors, the local non-profit youth football and cheer organization. With festivities starting at 10 a.m. and lasting until 8 p.m., this event looks to be an all-day party at City Center Plaza.

The event itself is free to attend and will feature music, entertainment and kids activities which includes island-style arts and crafts. Along with the free activities there will be many merchant vendors, food vendors, and jumpees. This year will feature a guest appearance by former San Francisco 49er, Jesse Sapolu and a musical performance by Faith Ako, who is one of the premiere contemporary Hawaiian musicians in the Bay Area.

This is the third year that the RP Warriors are sponsoring this event and it is one of their principle fundraising efforts for the youth football and cheer group. Last year they raised approximately $6700   according to Raquel Kilmartin, who is in charge of fundraising for the organization.

The RP Warriors is for kids ages 5 to 15 that enjoy football or cheer. The non-profit was created to help develop and promote the ideals of responsibility, hard work, sportsmanship, respect, teamwork and commitment in all children in a positive environment. This year they are slated for a 10 game season with additional games for playoffs and an all-star game.

Island themed vendors that will be on hand at the event include Polynesian Roast Chicken-Lamb, Von Kahaulelio, Kiki & Bob’s Hawaiian Shaved Ice, Mama Nita’s Filipino Hut, Aloha Grindz, Polynesian Gift Hut and the Aloha Trading Company plus many more.

Other vendors include Sweet Pea Gift Shop, Sol Azteca and Friar Tucks will be hosting the beer and margarita booth. “Since this is our third year, more vendors have approached us in order to share their items with Sonoma County,” said Kilmartin.

There will be a bloodmobile on hand at the event and the first 20 donors will receive a free event t-shirt. All donors will receive an entrance ticket to the 2013 Sonoma County Fair.

City Center Plaza is located at 500 City Center Drive. For more information or to inquire about donations, please call 242-1828.
