Himalayan Beanz starts brewing in Rohnert Park

Himalayan Beanz quietly moved in and opened on June 1 in the spot once occupied by Starbucks next to Safeway on Commerce Boulevard. After a little over a month, people are starting to take notice.

“Business has been alright,” said manager Shawne Hoxsie, who agreed that not a lot of people know about the store yet.

This is Himalayan Beanz Coffee’s only store in the United States, with others located within Kathmandu, serving organic coffee beans and teas from Nepal. Other items in the store, such as organic ice cream, sandwiches and pastries, are purchased locally from Pearson and Co. in Santa Rosa, according to Hoxsie.

“We do make the cookies here,” she added.

The interior is similar to that of the old Starbucks before the more recent corporate makeover. Along with comfy chairs, the space features a longer communal table for people workin on their computers. Beanz also offers free wi-fi.

One unique aspect is the guitar that sits near the register. “People can just grab it and play if they want,” said Hoxsie.

Himalayan Beanz Coffee is located at 6356 Commerce Boulevard and is open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., (408) 759-3776.
