Back to school at Evergreen
For some students summer is half over, for others the school year is already about to begin. For most of the district, school starts on Wednesday, August 21. The Rohnert Park-Cotati School District’s year-round program, in its’ second year at Evergreen Elementary, starts on Wednesday, July 24.
This year the program has expanded to 9 classrooms at the school. There will be 2 classes at the Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grade levels and then 1 class at the 3rd, 4th and 5th grade levels. This year marks a return of the sixth grade to the middle school level. People who live in and around E-section can expect a moderate uptick in traffic at the peak school hours of 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. for the next month.
Parents of children in grades K-2 can check at the school after 4 p.m. on Tuesday, July 23 for the posted list of class rosters to find out who will be their child’s teacher.
There are advantages to the year round program, which is open to anyone within the district. The first month is less crowded which can make it easier for children to acclimate to the school. Also parents enjoy the benefits of less traffic along with less hectic back-to-school shopping.
The CRPUSD year-round calendar is similar to that of Penngrove School, which started back up last week. The main difference between the year-round schedule and standard schedule is a three week “Fall Break” in October and a second week of Spring Break in March. This can be easier for some families to work with from a scheduling standpoint as summer can be difficult for families with a single parent or where both parents work.
