A sign of the times, Part Two

On Tuesday evening at 6:30, the traffic heading north on Highway 101 came to a sudden halt just north of the Mendocino Avenue exit.

"It must be an accident," said my traveling companion.

"Maybe it's a hail storm," I responded.

We both were wrong. The cause for the tie-up was the new Wells Fargo Center for the Arts sign, which was advertising -- in traffic-stopping yellow lights -- the appearance of comedians Harvey Korman and Tim Conway.

The sight immediately called to mind the brouhaha over the city of Rohnert Park's sign that caused traffic jams for weeks, before drivers learned to ignore the neon. Hopefully, commuters in the north part of the county will be a little less eager to brake for bright lights.
