The Women in Business monthly luncheon will be held at Mary’s Pizza Shack  from 11:45 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 8. Take part in a program created by women for women as the meeting features Sarah Dove speaking about “Promoting Women as Effective Community Leaders.” RSVP by calling 584-1415.

The Redwood Cafe in Cotati will host Barn Burner’s Poetry Slam starting at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan 8. This open mic night welcomes all poets, beat-boxers, musicians and comedians. The cost is $5 to $10 based on a sliding scale. The Cafe is located at 8240 Old Redwood Highway. Call 486-7276 for info.

Also on Tuesday, Jan. 8 there will be Comedy at Double Decker Lanes. This will be a comedy event featuring established local comics as well as open mic time for new talent. Double Decker Lanes will host this event the second Tuesday of every month in their lounge and it is completely free. Sign-ups start at 7:30 p.m. and the show starts at 8:30 p.m. This week features Brian Thomas and Nick Hoffman as the MC’s.

It’s time for another of Pam Brown’s Storytimes at the Rohnert Park-Cotati Regional Public Library. “Bear Hugs” is for free to local kids and their family at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, at the library, 6250 Lynne Conde Way in Rohnert Park. Storytime events feature stories and crafts geared for children ages 2 to 6. Call 584-9121 for info.

Cal Skate serves up family fun on Saturday, Jan. 12, with another Family Night from 6-8:30 p.m. Families can enjoy special admission prices of only $6 or purchase a Family Pack of skates, skating and pizza for four people priced at $39. Carl St. Clair conducts the Santa Rosa Symphony this weekend at the Green Music Center’s Weill Hall, with special guest Karen Gomyo playing violin. Performances are at  8 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 13, and 8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 14. For tickets and more info, call the Box Office at (866) 955-6040. Ticket prices range from $20 to $75.
