Tech High basketball players holding fundraiser

Tuesday, January 22nd, 2013 | Posted by

Varsity basketball teams at Technology High School in Rohnert Park plan to stage a breast cancer fundraiser in honor of an assistant coach who is battling the disease.

The event will take place Feb. 1 when the girls and boys teams host St. Vincent.

Proceeds raised that evening will be donated to the American Cancer Society for breast cancer research.

Girls assistant coach Diane Felton is undergoing treatment for the disease. According to school principal Bruce Mims, she undergoes treatment most days and then attends practice and games.

There will be a ceremony honoring her at halftime of the boys game.  All Technology players will wear pink socks and sweatbands in recognition of the cause.

Alex Vallejo, the athletic trainer for Technology sports teams, came up with the idea.

Technology staff plans to make the cancer fundraiser an annual event during basketball season.
