Give Kids a Smile!
Give Kids a Smile Day is right around the corner on Feb. 1. While not a national holiday, this date was selected by the American Dental Association in 2003 as the primary day to provide dental services to underserved children.
Initially the program was a one-day event but has since expanded on a national level. Dentists and other team members volunteer time and services to provide free dental exams, screenings, and education to children ages 0 to 18.
In Rohnert Park the Give Kids a Smile Day will happen on Friday, Feb. 1 and Saturday, Feb. 2. Pre-registration is required and interested parties should call 544-5638 between the hours of 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday to start the process.
The event will be hosted by a local dentist who will be identified after pre-registration.
As of Jan. 10, there are 1,696 events scheduled around the U.S., with 9,487 dentists and 31,398 other volunteers already signed up to help an estimated 394,448 kids. That number is expected to grow, with as many as 450,000 kids helped by the time Feb. 3 rolls around.
