Always wanted to write that novel but never found the time? Join members of Redwood Writers for moral support at 10 a.m. each Monday in November at the Redwood Café during NaNoWriMo—National Novel Writing Month. Starts Nov. 5. 8240 Old Redwood Hwy in Cotati.

Join Congregation Ner Shalom’s Yiddish Tish at noon on Tuesday, Nov. 5, for a monthly foray into the riches of Yiddish literature. This month includes a peek into Leonard Wolf’s Yiddish translation of Winnie the Pooh. No previous Yiddish knowledge required. Bring your lunch and meet Reb Irwin Keller on the synagogue deck, 85 La Plaza in Cotati.

If you haven’t yet been to the Green Music Center, don’t miss SSU’s 11th Annual High School Choral Festival from 8 a.m.-11 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 6. Four hundred high school choristers from Sonoma and Marin counties will perform before guest adjudicator, Dr. Richard Robert Rossi at Weill Hall. Anyone can drop in during performances and clinics. Craving some old-fashioned rock & roll? Come listen to a dynamic live performance of The Honey Wilders at Tradewinds Bar in Cotati 9 p.m. Friday, Nov. 9. Nominated for Best Local Band from the Metro Silicon Valley, this energetic San Jose-based band gets the feet stomping with its catchy tunes. Watch French director Jean Renoir’s Oscar-nominated film “The Southerner” at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 9 and 4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 11 at the Sonoma Film Institute. Shown in conjunction with Water Works, Sonoma State University’s yearlong program exploring the theme of water, this film is about Texas tenant farmers trying to survive against the elements. Screenings are in Warren Auditorium, Ives Hall, on the SSU campus, 1801 E. Cotati Ave. in Rohnert Park. Admission: $6; $5 for non-SSU students and senior citizens; $4 for SFI members and children under 12; free for SSU students. SoCo Dance Theatre presents its third annual Fall Dance Concert Nov. 9 -11 at the Spreckels Performing Arts Center located at 5409 Snyder Lane in Rohnert Park. SoCo Dance Theater showcases local choreographers exploring traditional and experimental approaches to dance. Performances are at 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 9 and Saturday, Nov. 10, and at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 11. Knock down some pins and raise money for kids with the Rotary Club of Rohnert Park-Cotati’s Bowling Tournament 11 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 11, at Double Decker Lanes in Rohnert Park. Entry fee is $50 per person (placed on a team) or $200 per 4-player team. Cost include team shirt, two games, pizza and soda. Corporate sponsorships available.
