August memorial for retired SSU professor killed in hit-and-run collision

A memorial service has been set for August for retired Sonoma State University professor Steve Norwick, who died in June, 12 days after he was hit by a car while on his bicycle.

The service is to be held Sunday, Aug. 12, at SSU, where Norwick, a popular professor, taught for nearly four decades in the environmental studies and planning department.

He was hit while riding on Petaluma Hill Road by a hit-and-run driver. A Rohnert Park man was arrested and charged in the death.

The service will be held at the campus's lakes area at 2:30 p.m. It is planned as a celebration of his life for family, friends, colleagues, students and former students, said Michelle Covington, a SSU official.

Norwick's family has asked that people planning to attend RSVP so that plans for beverages, chairs and parking can be made. Guests are urged to carpool.
