Misspelled sign along Highway 101 gets temporary fix
Thanks to a cleverly placed sticker, a typo that misspelled the name of Sonoma County’s third-largest city disappeared Wednesday from a Highway 101 sign alerting drivers they were approaching Rohnert Park.
The mistake, which turned Rohnert Park into “Ronhert Park,” had glared at drivers for about two weeks until crews made a temporary fix Wednesday morning, Caltrans spokesman Bob Haus said.
A Ghilotti Construction Co. crew scratched off the high stem of the “h” sticker and added a stem to the “n” on the sign, which is located along the northbound lanes of the highway just south of Cotati.
“It’s a temporary fix,” Haus said.
Ghilotti subcontracted with a company called Traffic Solutions to make the signs. That company will eventually supply a new sign, he said.

Don’t blame the CalTrans Workers! People make mistakes. But PLEASE a town you work or around! This is a problem!
Traffic Solutions billed $345,567 to make the temporary correction.
I think the “Downtown Cotati” designation for northbound 101 travelers is misleading; it would be better for northbound motorists to take the West Sierra Ave. exit to get to downtown Cotati. Maybe there’s a concern about increased traffic on West Sierra Ave., but I doubt there would be much of an impact by changing the freeway sign to “West Sierra Ave., Downtown Cotati.” By taking the 116 West exit, you wind up about a half mile *north* of downtown, and have to backtrack along a very busy Old Redwood Highway.
