Sips, Bites and Bids for SSU’s Wine Business
More than 300 alumni, parents and guests gathered with Sonoma State University faculty and staff on Oct. 29 for wine, cheese and student musicians at the Second Annual Sips, Bites and Bids event, a fundraiser for SSU’s Wine Business Institute Alumni Council.
Fifteen wineries, all represented by graduates of the school’s Wine Business program, poured their wines for participants. The event was sold out, and a silent auction raised more than $2,500 for the Council.
“This event fills a unique niche because it showcases alumni and their wineries, all right here in our own backyard,” said Vincent Cortese, president of the Board of Directors for Sonoma State’s Alumni Association, who organized the event with the Wine Business Alumni Council.
The wineries present, some of whom do not typically pour for the general public, included Stryker Sonoma, La Crema, Sebastiani, Buena Vista, Schug, Matanzas Creek, Edmeads, Arrowhead Mountain Vineyard, Londer, Foursight, Ehlers, Kelley & Young, Hickman, Ottimino Vineyard and Winery and Jackson Family Wines.
