Alert issued to find missing SSU student

Authorities have issued a missing person alert for a Sonoma State University student who disappeared after leaving suicide notes.

James Abriel, 19, was last seen April 21 in the Walnut Creek area, according to the SSU and Walnut Creek police departments.

Walnut Creek police said he may have with him a 40 caliber Sig Sauer handgun that was taken from a home on April 18.

"He left suicide notes after a relationship breakup," said SSU spokeswoman Susan Kashack.

She said notes were found on April 25 in his SSU residence hall and at a home in Walnut Creek, where his family lives.

He was last seen on campus April 14, she said.

The blond-haired Abriel is 6-foot-1 and weighs 180 pounds, police said. He may be driving a 1999 four-door white Toyota Camry, with a California license plate, 4GYG766.

Anyone with information is asked to call 911 or the Walnut Creek Police Department, 925-935-6400, case number 11-13034.

The missing person bulletin was issued Thursday.
