SSU golf finishes 8th

Sonoma State failed to improve its position on the final day of the NCAA Division II West Region golf competition at The Legacy Resort in Phoenix Wednesday.

But sophomore Kyle Hopkins just missed qualifying for nationals as an individual.

The Seawolves finished eighth, shooting 307-299-303-909. The team champion was Cal State Bakersfield.

Hopkins finished with an even-par 71, ending up 10th and missing a national berth by two strokes. His tournament total (75-71-71-217) was 4 over par.

Other SSU results were Chris Galvin, 77-75-73-225 (T30th); Hollis Kelley, 79-75-78-232 (38th), and Petter Lindbak, 76-78-81-235 (T35th). "We didn't play very well today," said SSU coach Val Verhunce. "The pins were in tough positions, but we just didn't finish well."
