SSU student Dillon Rachman of Orange County just moved into this Rohnert Park house when a can and his truck was torched last night.

Arson suspected in Rohnert Park vehicle fires

Fire destroyed four vehicles, scorched two homes and sent Rohnert Park police and fire officials on a hunt for a suspected arsonist early Tuesday, said an early report from the Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety.

Officials responded to reports of a vehicle fire on the 1000-block of Camino Coronado around 3 a.m., the report said.

While en route, officials learned that the fire spread to a second vehicle and up the trunk of a nearby palm tree.

As crews arrived and began putting out the fire, they discovered fire had engulfed a second pair of vehicles on the 900-block of Camino Coronado.

Officials suspected an arsonist was responsible for the fires and searched the area for suspicious persons or vehicles.

Multiple car doors and trunks were open near the fires at five residences. Nothing appeared to be missing from any of the tampered vehicles, the report said.

Both fires were under control within about 25 minutes, the report said. The flames caused about $50,000 of damage, according to early estimates.

Anyone with information about the fires can call the Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety at 584-2600.
